What makes my soul sing? - by Anna
When I first saw this as the topic to write on I really didn't know what I would write about. And so for the past
week or so I have been paying particular attention to what just makes me so happy, excited, bubbling over on
the inside.
So what makes my soul sing? My sons, family and friends. For many different reasons and yet for so many of the same reasons. The laughter that erupts from the basement when the boys are enjoying a video game, or a small video on their phones with each other, or just sharing a moment that happened through out their day or an incident caused by one of our cats. The encouraging words, the prayers, the grace and mercy showed to me by hugs, emails, texts, FB messages and the best of course are in person. I am one of those people who just loves being in the company of dear friends and family – just listening to the buzz going on around me. In those moments when life is perfect - that makes my heart sing.
And I truly love a sunrise. This morning, actually, my sister messaged me saying she could really use a little sunshine. Its been too many days of the gray and drizzly – maybe some of you can relate. And as I mentioned before I drive bus for SCCS. This morning at 7:50 -there was a beautiful sunrise. The sky started as shades of purple leading into a light golden yellow – and for me the tree line was dark – what a contrast. And finally the sun made its appearance – a brilliant ball of fiery orange. Stunning the masterpiece that God created this morning. And if I didn't drive bus I would have missed it all.
Speaking of driving bus – those children that I take to school and back home each day – every now and then, I will hear singing on the bus. Sometimes it is just one little girl or boy singing a song they learned in school and at other times it will be over half the bus singing. Yesterday was one of those days – the senior students started and for a brief minute most of my bus was singing praises to our Lord and Saviour. Trust me it was way off key and not on tempo at all – but it was beautiful!
Music for sure speaks to me. For me, that can make or break a Sunday morning service. Our pastor is fantastic don't get me wrong, but the music – aaahhhhh! How many times has it happened that a song will just stop me in my tracks, tears in the eyes, can't say another word? Does anyone else have that? Anyway, there are words that just speak to the soul and even though I get choked up – just knowing that the Lord is speaking to me during those times – goose bumps! A few of my favorite artists right now – Rend Collective, Mandisa, Toby Mac, Lauren Diagle, Chris Tomlin, All Sons and Daughters.
And then I’d have to say, seeing the bald eagles flying around Delaware. Since my life situation changed a couple years ago, I look to those eagles as a reminder of God's nearness to me. God will never leave or forsake me. Did you know that bald eagles mate for life? So a number of years ago we were camping at Rondeau Provincial Park and they have an education center there. They have a bald eagles nest built in there and the park staff were talking about the bald eagles. The female, when picking her mate, will test the male. She will fly up with a stick in her mouth and drop it – if the male is able to catch it before the stick hits the ground that is a positive. She will then find a heavier stick and do the test again. She continues until she drops a stick that weighs as much as she does. The male who is able to catch the stick before it hits the ground is who she will choose. Why? Because if she were in trouble that male eagle will be able to protect her, he will catch her. And then I think about the verses in the Bible that speak of eagles. Isaiah 40:37 - “but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” When I see those eagles, it just gives me such hope that the Lord is with me, that I can run this race that HE has set before me knowing that HE will be there to catch me when I stumble and fall. They are such a majestic bird – flying so free in the sky, following the winds that the Lord provides for them. Seeing those bald eagles they truly make my soul sing.
Blessings to you all! I pray that you all have a reason for your soul to sing each and every day!
